Award-winning Fern Field Brooks spent most of her professional life producing, writing and directing film and television. Her credits include sit-coms, MOWs, Mini-Series, children’s programming, documentaries, a talk show, and a competition game show to encourage the correct use of English. She has an EMMY, an OSCAR nomination, and an NAACP IMAGE award as well as multiple HUMANITAS and GEORGE FOSTER PEABODY awards.

She first began writing when she was about 10 years old and tried her hand at a Nancy Drew novel. Coming across those pages half a century later, she determined it was some of the best writing she had ever done. Of course, when she was a teenager and showed it to her then high school sweetheart – he suggested she was a very good plagiarist!

“A DIFFERENT APPROACH” – a comedy musical designed to encourage the employment of people with disabilities became one of those charmed projects where everything goes right; it changed all our lives along with our industry’s perception of people with disabilities; launched careers like Geri Jewell in THE FACTS OF LIFE, paved the way for shows like “SPEECHLESS”. It was nominated for an OSCAR along with receiving multiple national and international awards. The rest – as they say – is history.

Fern has received countless awards for her talented work, which include two Peabody Awards, two Humanitas awards and the NAACP Image Award. She also received the Distinguished Service Award for her work with people with disabilities from President Ronald Reagan and was honored at the 20th Anniversary Celebration for Persons with Disabilities.
